Your baby is about the size of a cantaloupe, practicing breathing, and settling into birth position. You may feel more pressure and fatigue. Focus on rest, monitor contractions, and prepare for labor.
Your Baby at 34 Weeks
Your baby now weighs about 5 pounds and is about 18 inches long. They are practicing breathing, sucking, and swallowing. The lungs are maturing, and the brain is developing rapidly.
- Baby's eyes can now blink
- They may settle into a head-down position
- Skin becomes less wrinkled as fat builds
- They have fingernails and toenails
Your Body Changes
You might feel more pressure in your pelvis as your baby drops. Your uterus is about 5 inches above your belly button. You may notice more vaginal discharge and Braxton Hicks contractions.
Common Symptoms This Week
- Swelling in ankles and feet (mild is normal)
- Shortness of breath as baby pushes on diaphragm
- Sleep trouble due to discomfort
- Frequent urination
These symptoms are normal, but tell your doctor if you have severe headaches, vision changes, or sudden swelling. These can be signs of preeclampsia.
