What is this test?
This blood test measures IgE antibodies directed against canary grass. These antibodies are part of the immune response to a suspected allergen.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order this test when you have sneezing, congestion, cough, wheezing, or other symptoms associated with exposure to grass pollen. It may help identify whether canary grass is a possible trigger.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected by venipuncture and analyzed in a laboratory for allergen-specific IgE. Your clinician will interpret the result along with your symptoms, environment, and other allergy history.
How do I prepare for the test?
This test usually requires no special preparation. Tell your clinician about any medicines you take, particularly antihistamines or other allergy treatments, because they may affect interpretation.
Reference range
Adult: 10-40 U/LN/A
No special preparation required. Avoid fatty meals before the test if possible.
Clinical interpretation
How abnormal results are interpreted and what conditions they suggest.
A positive result indicates immune sensitization to canary grass and may support a diagnosis of grass-pollen allergy. It does not by itself prove that canary grass is causing your symptoms. Results should be interpreted by a clinician in the context of your exposure history and symptoms.
Short name
