What is this test?
A CT scan of the left clavicle uses X-rays and a computer to create cross-sectional images of the left collarbone. It can show fractures, bone changes, fluid collections, and nearby soft tissues in greater detail than a standard X-ray.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order this scan after an injury or for persistent shoulder or collarbone pain. It may help evaluate a suspected fracture, infection, alignment problem, or an unusual growth in or around the bone.
How is the test performed?
You will lie on a padded table while an X-ray machine rotates around the affected area. The scan is usually painless and does not require injected contrast material for this test.
How do I prepare for the test?
No special preparation is usually needed. Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners, remove jewelry or other metal near the scan area, and tell the technologist if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
Clinical interpretation
How abnormal results are interpreted and what conditions they suggest.
Abnormal findings may include a fracture, infection, misalignment, a fluid collection, or another bone or soft-tissue condition. Results should be interpreted by a radiologist together with your symptoms, physical examination, and any other imaging or tests.
Short name
Left clavicle CT
