What is this test?
A CT scan of the right clavicle creates detailed cross-sectional images of the right collarbone and nearby tissues. It is performed without intravenous contrast dye.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order this test to evaluate collarbone pain, a suspected fracture, abnormal bone alignment, or a bone lesion. It may also be used to assess infection or other structural changes.
How is the test performed?
You will lie on a padded table while the scanner takes X-ray images from several angles. The scan is generally quick and does not require intravenous contrast dye.
How do I prepare for the test?
Fasting is usually not required for a CT scan without contrast, but follow your appointment instructions. Remove metal objects near the scanned area and tell the imaging team if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or have trouble remaining still.
Clinical interpretation
How abnormal results are interpreted and what conditions they suggest.
The scan may show a fracture, abnormal alignment, bone erosion, infection, or another structural abnormality. A radiologist reviews the images and sends the findings to your clinician. Your clinician will explain what the results mean in relation to your symptoms and medical history.
