Cow Milk (Boiled) IgE RAST, Qualitative
A legacy qualitative blood test for IgE antibodies to cow’s-milk proteins after boiling, used to assess possible allergic sensitization.
["A positive result suggests an IgE-mediated cow’s-milk allergy, but it must be interpreted alongside your symptoms and medical history."]

What is this test?
This legacy test, also described as a boiled cow’s-milk RAST, looks for IgE antibodies directed against cow’s-milk proteins that have been heated. RAST is an older term for allergen-specific IgE testing. The qualitative result is reported as positive or negative.
Why might I need this test?
It may be used to evaluate suspected IgE-mediated cow’s-milk allergy, particularly when symptoms occur after exposure to heated milk or cooked milk products. It is also sometimes used to assess whether a different milk protein may be responsible.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected and analyzed for IgE antibodies that bind to boiled cow’s-milk proteins. Because this is a qualitative test, it indicates whether detectable sensitization was found rather than providing a measured antibody concentration.
How do I prepare for the test?
No special diet or fasting is usually required. Antihistamines and other allergy medicines can sometimes affect testing, so tell your clinician about all medicines and supplements and do not stop them without medical advice. If you have reacted to milk, do not intentionally consume it for this test.
