What is this test?
This is a qualitative blood test for IgE antibodies against Der p 1, an allergen found in house dust mites. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus is the dust-mite species most commonly associated with this allergen.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order this test when you have symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, wheezing, or a rash that could be caused by dust-mite allergy. It may also help identify which dust-mite allergen is triggering your symptoms.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected and analyzed to determine whether IgE antibodies to Der p 1 are present. The result is generally reported as positive or negative rather than as a measured concentration.
How do I prepare for the test?
No special preparation is usually required. Tell your clinician about your allergy symptoms, recent allergen exposure, and any medicines or allergy treatments you are using, but do not stop them without medical advice.
Reference range
Adult: 10-40 U/LN/A
