What is this test?
This test measures IgE antibodies your immune system makes in response to specific airborne allergens, such as pollens, mold, or dust mites. It is reported as a qualitative positive or negative result for the allergen mix.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order it to help identify possible triggers of sneezing, wheezing, congestion, or other allergy symptoms. It can also be useful when choosing or monitoring allergy treatment.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is tested in the laboratory for antibodies directed against the included inhalant allergens. The result indicates whether allergen-specific IgE was detected.
How do I prepare for the test?
Fasting is usually not required. Tell your clinician about antihistamine use, recent allergy treatments, and any changes in symptoms, because these may affect interpretation. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your clinician instructs you to do so.
