What is this test?
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in your blood for a panel of 10 foods. IgE is an immune-system protein that can respond to substances in food.
Why might I need this test?
It may be used when you have symptoms such as hives, swelling, wheezing, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort after eating. Your clinician may also use it to investigate a suspected food allergy.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected and tested in a laboratory using an immunoassay. The report identifies the foods for which IgE antibodies were detected and provides a measured result for each food.
How do I prepare for the test?
Fasting is usually not required. Tell your clinician about any food allergies, recent reactions, and medicines you take, especially antihistamines, because these may affect interpretation; do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.
Reference range
Adult: 10-40 U/LN/A
