What is this test?
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies to a mixture of 28 foods in a blood sample. It is a broad screening test for possible IgE-mediated food allergy; it does not identify which single food is responsible.
Why might I need this test?
Your clinician may order it to evaluate suspected food allergy, especially if you have symptoms such as hives, swelling, wheezing, vomiting, or other reactions after eating. It may also help guide follow-up testing for the individual foods that appear most relevant.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected and analyzed in the laboratory, usually with an immunoassay. Because many allergens are tested together, additional testing for individual foods may be needed.
How do I prepare for the test?
No special preparation is usually required. Antihistamines and some other medicines can affect IgE test results, so tell your clinician about all medicines and supplements you use. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your clinician advises you to do so.
Reference range
Adult: 10-40 U/LN/A
