What is this test?
This blood test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies against a panel of food allergens and cigarette allergen. IgE is an antibody involved in allergic reactions.
Why might I need this test?
It may be ordered to evaluate suspected food allergy or symptoms that may be related to exposure to cigarette smoke. Results can help identify possible triggers, but they do not by themselves confirm a clinical allergy.
How is the test performed?
A blood sample is collected and tested for IgE antibodies to the allergens included in the panel. The laboratory may report which individual food or cigarette allergens show a detectable response.
How do I prepare for the test?
Fasting is generally not required. Antihistamines and some other medicines can affect results, so tell your clinician about all medicines and supplements you use; do not stop prescribed treatment without guidance.
Reference range
Adult: 10-40 U/LN/A
No special preparation required. Avoid fatty meals before the test if possible.
