Insulin concentration measured in relation to glucose levels (previously called Insulin-Glucose Profile or Insulin-Glucose Ratio)
This test evaluates how your body’s insulin levels respond to glucose, helping assess insulin sensitivity and potential diabetes or metabolic disorders.
["Helps diagnose or monitor conditions like insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes."]

Why This Test Is Done
Your doctor may order this test if you have symptoms of high blood sugar (e.g., frequent urination, excessive thirst) or if you’re at risk for diabetes. It may also be used to check how well insulin is working in people with known diabetes or prediabetes.
How the Test Works
A blood sample is taken to measure insulin levels *simultaneously* with glucose levels. This helps determine how your body regulates blood sugar, especially in response to insulin.
What to Expect Before the Test
No special preparation is needed, but you may be asked to fast for 8–12 hours before the test if glucose levels are measured separately. Wear comfortable clothing for blood draws.
What the Results Mean
Results compare insulin and glucose ratios to identify patterns, such as whether insulin is insufficient or ineffective at lowering blood sugar. Abnormal results may signal metabolic issues needing further evaluation.
Reference range
Fasting: 2.6-24.9 μIU/mLN/A
No special preparation usually required. Stay well hydrated. Inform your healthcare provider of all medications and supplements you are taking.
Clinical interpretation
How abnormal results are interpreted and what conditions they suggest.
Clinical Significance: Insulin-Glucose Profile
Short name
Insulin-Glucose Profile (Serum/Plasma)
