What is this test?
Magnetic resonance angiography, or MRA, uses MRI technology to create detailed images of blood vessels. This test evaluates vessels in the left thigh without injecting a contrast agent.
Why might I need this test?
A clinician may order this scan to investigate reduced blood flow, swelling, pain, or unexplained changes in the left leg. It may also be used to assess blood vessels before or after a vascular procedure.
How is the test performed?
You will lie on a padded table inside the MRI scanner. The scanner uses magnetic fields and radio waves to generate images, and you may be asked to remain still during the examination.
How do I prepare for the test?
Follow the instructions provided by the imaging center. You may need to remove jewelry, keys, cards, and other metal-containing items, and you should tell the staff if you have an implanted medical device or are pregnant.
Clinical interpretation
How abnormal results are interpreted and what conditions they suggest.
Abnormal findings may indicate narrowing, blockage, irregular vessel walls, or an aneurysm affecting the left thigh circulation. Results should be interpreted with your symptoms, medical history, and other imaging or laboratory tests by your clinician.
Short name
Left Thigh MR Angiography
