What is this test?
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, creates detailed pictures of the urethra and endovaginal region using a strong magnetic field and radio waves. This version is performed without intravenous contrast dye.
Why might I need this test?
The test may be ordered to investigate pelvic pain, urinary symptoms, pelvic-floor problems, inflammation, tissue injury, or a suspected mass. It can also help evaluate the anatomy of the urethra and nearby reproductive or pelvic structures.
How is the test performed?
You will usually lie on a table inside the MRI scanner while images are taken. The exact positioning depends on the area being examined. A specialized endovaginal imaging component may be used, which can feel uncomfortable; tell the technologist if you have concerns.
How do I prepare for the test?
Follow the imaging center's instructions and tell staff about any implants, medication patches, or metal objects. You may be asked to remove jewelry, change into a gown, and avoid makeup products containing metallic ingredients. Because no contrast is used, contrast-related preparation is generally unnecessary.
