Rufinamide/Creatinine Ratio, Urine — Calculated
This urine test measures rufinamide relative to creatinine to help evaluate drug exposure and treatment adherence while accounting for urine concentration.
["The result can help clinicians assess whether rufinamide exposure is too low, too high, or changing."]

What is this test?
This test measures the amount of rufinamide in urine and compares it with the amount of creatinine. Creatinine is used as a reference because its urine level varies with urine concentration.
Why might I need this test?
Rufinamide is an antiseizure medicine. This test may be used during treatment monitoring to help assess medication exposure, response, and adherence, especially when blood testing is not available or when a clinician wants an additional measure of drug elimination.
How is the test performed?
A urine specimen is collected and analyzed in a laboratory. The laboratory calculates the rufinamide-to-creatinine ratio from the measured concentrations. The test is generally performed using a random urine sample unless your clinician requests a timed collection.
How do I prepare for the test?
Follow your clinician's instructions about when to collect the urine. Record the date, time, and approximate time of your last rufinamide dose, and tell the laboratory about all medicines you are taking. The sample should be collected in the container provided and labeled as instructed.
