Temporarily relieves symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies, or sinus conditions including headache, fever, minor aches, nasal congestion, sinus pressure, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes. Some formulations may also be used for menstrual cramp relief due to the diuretic effect of phenylpropanolamine.
Acetaminophen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the brain to reduce pain and fever. Caffeine increases the effectiveness of acetaminophen and provides mild stimulation to reduce fatigue. Phenylpropanolamine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that constricts blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and congestion. Pyrilamine is a first-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors to relieve allergic symptoms.
Do not exceed recommended doses; acetaminophen overdose can cause serious liver damage. Use with caution if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, glaucoma, or urinary problems. The caffeine content may cause insomnia or nervousness. Alcohol should be avoided as it increases the risk of liver damage. This medication may cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery. Consult a healthcare provider before use if taking other medications, especially MAO inhibitors or blood pressure medications.
