Acetaminophen Thiocolchicoside
This combination medication pairs acetaminophen, a widely-used analgesic and fever reducer, with thiocolchicoside, a muscle relaxant agent. It is prescribed for the management of painful conditions involving muscle spasms, such as acute musculoskeletal pain, low back pain, and torticollis. Treatment of acute painful musculoskeletal conditions associated with muscle spasms, including low back pain (lumbago), neck pain (cervicalgia), intercostal neuralgia, and torticollis. Also used for post-traumatic and post-operative muscle pain.
Acetaminophen produces analgesic and antipyretic effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Thiocolchicoside acts as a muscle relaxant through GABA-A receptor modulation and glycine receptor agonism, reducing muscle contraction and spasm. Together, they address both pain perception and muscle tension.
Should not be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in children/adolescents. Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to either component, severe hepatic or renal impairment, and myasthenia gravis. May cause drowsiness; alcohol should be avoided. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Patients should not exceed maximum daily acetaminophen dose to avoid liver toxicity.
