Treatment of respiratory tract infections where both antibacterial coverage and mucus thinning are beneficial, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or other bacterial infections with excessive sputum production. The combination addresses both the infection and the associated mucus congestion.

Cefuroxime is a beta-lactam antibiotic that disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, effectively killing susceptible bacteria. Acetylcysteine is a mucolytic that breaks down disulfide bonds in mucoproteins, thinning and loosening thick respiratory secretions to improve airway clearance.

May cause GI upset, hypersensitivity reactions (especially in penicillin-allergic patients due to cross-reactivity with cephalosporins), and bronchospasm in some patients. Should be used with caution in patients with asthma or history of gastric ulcers. Complete the full course as prescribed. May interact with certain antibiotics and antitussives.
