Relief of gas-related symptoms including bloating, abdominal discomfort, trapped wind, and feelings of fullness. May also be used as an adjunct in certain cases of poisoning or drug overdose (under medical supervision).
Activated charcoal works by adsorbing (binding to) gas molecules and certain substances in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing their absorption. Simethicone acts as an antifoaming agent that reduces surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing them to combine and be more easily expelled or absorbed.
Take with plenty of water. Activated charcoal can reduce absorption of many medications including birth control pills and heart medications—take other medicines at least 2 hours apart. Not effective for poisoning by caustics, alcohols, or petroleum products. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist or if using for suspected poisoning. Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless directed by a healthcare provider.
