Alginic Acid Calcium Carbonate
Alginic Acid / Calcium Carbonate is a combination medication used to treat symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion. Alginic acid forms a protective foam barrier in the stomach that helps prevent stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus, while calcium carbonate works as an antacid to neutralize excess stomach acid. Primarily used for symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach. May also be used for symptoms of hiatal hernia-related reflux.
Calcium carbonate acts as a fast-acting antacid by neutralizing stomach acid. Alginic acid reacts with stomach acid to form a viscous foam that floats on top of stomach contents, creating a physical barrier that helps prevent acid from flowing back into the esophagus.
Take as directed, typically after meals and at bedtime. May interfere with absorption of other medications—space doses accordingly. Patients with kidney disease, hypercalcemia, or on calcium-restricted diets should consult a healthcare provider before use. Common side effects may include constipation or gas. Do not use for more than 2 weeks continuously without medical advice.
