Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients not adequately controlled on monotherapy or who are likely to need multiple agents to reach blood pressure goals.

Aliskiren inhibits renin, the enzyme that converts angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, thereby reducing the activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Hydrochlorothiazide promotes sodium and water excretion through the kidneys, decreasing blood volume and cardiac output. Together, they provide complementary blood pressure lowering effects.

Not recommended for use in pregnancy due to potential harm to the fetus. May cause dizziness or dehydration. Should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment, liver disease, or those taking potassium-sparing diuretics or ACE inhibitors. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes is recommended during treatment.
