Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with active duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, or chronic gastritis, particularly when the infection is resistant to standard first-line therapies like clarithromycin-based regimens.
Amoxicillin and rifabutin work together as antibiotics to directly kill H. pylori bacteria, with rifabutin being particularly effective against resistant strains. Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, reduces stomach acid production, which helps create a less hostile environment for the antibiotics and promotes healing of stomach lining damage.
May cause side effects including nausea, diarrhea, taste disturbances, and darkening of body fluids. Rifabutin can cause uveitis and may interact with other medications metabolized by liver enzymes. Complete the full course of therapy even if symptoms improve. Not recommended during pregnancy without careful consideration of risks versus benefits.
