Ampicillin / Probenecid
Ampicillin/Probenecid is a combination medication that pairs the antibiotic ampicillin with probenecid, which helps increase and maintain ampicillin levels in the body by reducing its excretion through the kidneys. This combination is primarily used to treat certain bacterial infections, particularly gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections.
An antibiotic combination where probenecid enhances ampicillin effectiveness by slowing its elimination from the body.

Ampicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, killing the bacteria. Probenecid acts as a uricosuric agent but in this combination, it inhibits renal tubular secretion of ampicillin, thereby prolonging and increasing antibiotic levels in the bloodstream.
