Treatment of hormone receptor-positive early and advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women, and may be used as adjuvant therapy following surgery or in metastatic disease.
Arimidex inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens into estrogens. By blocking this conversion, it significantly reduces estrogen levels in the body, depriving estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells of the hormones they need to grow.
Only for use in postmenopausal women. Common side effects may include hot flashes, joint pain, and bone thinning. Regular monitoring and bone density assessments may be recommended. Not appropriate for hormone receptor-negative breast cancer or during pregnancy. Should only be taken as prescribed by an oncologist.
