Published: July 27, 2026Updated: August 27, 2026

Articaine/Epinephrine is a combination local anesthetic medication used primarily in dental procedures to induce numbness and control bleeding. Articaine blocks nerve signals in a specific area while epinephrine constricts blood vessels to prolong the anesthetic effect and reduce blood loss. This combination is commonly administered via injection for dental work such as extractions, fillings, and root canals.

Used to provide local anesthesia for dental procedures including extractions, fillings, crown placements, root canals, and periodontal surgery. May also be used for other minor surgical procedures requiring localized numbness.

Articaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that blocks sodium channels in nerve fibers, preventing the transmission of pain signals. Epinephrine causes vasoconstriction at the injection site, which reduces blood flow, minimizes bleeding, and slows the absorption of articaine to extend its duration of action.

Contains sulfites which may cause allergic reactions in susceptible individuals. Should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, or those taking beta-blockers. The vasoconstrictor component may cause temporary increases in heart rate and blood pressure. Dosage depends on the procedure and patient's medical condition. Aspirate before injection to avoid intravascular administration.
