Treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia, iron deficiency due to inadequate dietary intake, malabsorption syndromes, pregnancy, and conditions requiring increased iron supplementation such as heavy menstrual bleeding or recovery from illness.

Iron carbonyl provides a source of elemental iron necessary for hemoglobin synthesis and oxygen transport. Ascorbic acid acts as a reducing agent that converts ferric iron (Fe3+) to the more absorbable ferrous form (Fe2+) and creates an acidic environment in the gut that enhances iron bioavailability.

Take on an empty stomach with water or juice for optimal absorption. Separate from antacids, calcium supplements, and certain antibiotics by at least 2 hours. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, or dark stools. Not appropriate for patients with hemochromatosis, thalassemia, or iron overload conditions.
