Treatment of moderate to severe pain when non-opioid analgesics alone are insufficient. Typically reserved for situations requiring opioid-level pain management such as post-operative pain, severe injury, or breakthrough pain in patients with chronic pain conditions.
Oxycodone binds to mu-opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, altering pain perception and response. Aspirin inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis which decreases inflammation, pain, and fever. The combination provides synergistic pain relief through different mechanisms.
This is a Schedule II controlled substance with high abuse potential and risk of dependence. NSAIDs component increases risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, renal impairment, and cardiovascular events. Should not be used in patients with aspirin allergy, bleeding disorders, or those on anticoagulants. Respiratory depression risk exists especially when combined with other CNS depressants.
