Atenolol / Nifedipine
Atenolol/Nifedipine is a combination medication containing two cardiovascular agents: a beta-blocker (atenolol) and a calcium channel blocker (nifedipine). This combination is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain) when single-agent therapy is insufficient. The combination works through complementary mechanisms to lower blood pressure and reduce cardiac workload.
A combination blood pressure and angina medication pairing a beta-blocker with a calcium channel blocker for enhanced cardiovascular control.

Treatment of essential hypertension and management of stable angina pectoris when monotherapy with either agent alone is inadequate. May be prescribed when blood pressure requires more aggressive control than single-agent therapy can provide.
Atenolol reduces heart rate and cardiac output by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, while nifedipine relaxes vascular smooth muscle by blocking calcium channels, causing vasodilation. Together, they lower blood pressure through different complementary pathways and reduce myocardial oxygen demand.
Should not be stopped abruptly as this may cause rebound hypertension or worsening angina. Caution in patients with heart failure, bradycardia, or severe hypotension. May mask symptoms of hypoglycemia in diabetic patients. Avoid concurrent use with other non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers. Pregnancy category C. Always follow prescribing physician's guidance regarding use.
