Atorvastatin / Ezetimibe
Atorvastatin/Ezetimibe is a combination medication used to lower cholesterol levels in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It combines two cholesterol-lowering agents that work through different mechanisms to reduce both LDL ('bad') cholesterol production and absorption.
This combination medication lowers LDL cholesterol by reducing its production in the liver and its absorption from the intestine.

Used to treat hyperlipidemia and heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia in patients requiring additional LDL cholesterol reduction beyond statin monotherapy or ezetimibe alone.
Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Ezetimibe inhibits the NPC1L1 transporter in the small intestine, reducing dietary cholesterol absorption. Together they provide complementary cholesterol reduction.
Should be used alongside a low-cholesterol diet. Patients should report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (potential sign of rare muscle problems). Not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in patients with active liver disease. Regular liver function monitoring may be required.
