Used to treat acute non-specific diarrhea and chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Also sometimes used to manage traveler's diarrhea when other treatments are inadequate.

Diphenoxylate is an opioid agonist that acts on intestinal smooth muscle to reduce peristalsis and prolong transit time. Atropine is an anticholinergic that decreases intestinal secretions and motility. Together, they provide dual-action relief from diarrhea symptoms.

May cause drowsiness or dizziness; avoid operating machinery. Can produce opioid-like effects in high doses. Should not be used in patients with bacterial enteritis or toxic megacolon. Not recommended for children under 6 years old. Use cautiously in patients with liver disease or those taking other CNS depressants.
