Atropine / Neostigmine
Atropine/Neostigmine is a combination medication used primarily to reverse neuromuscular blockade at the end of surgical procedures. Neostigmine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine levels at the neuromuscular junction to compete with non-depolarizing muscle relaxants, while atropine is added to prevent the muscarinic side effects (such as bradycardia and bronchospasm) that would otherwise occur. This medication is administered by anesthesiologists during the emergence phase of general anesthesia.
A combination medication used to reverse muscle relaxation after surgery by increasing acetylcholine activity while preventing unwanted cardiac side effects.

Reversal of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blockade after surgical procedures; reversal of myasthenia gravis symptoms (neostigmine component historically); prevention of bradycardia during anesthesia emergence
Neostigmine inhibits acetylcholinesterase, preventing breakdown of acetylcholine and increasing its concentration at the neuromuscular junction to displace non-depolarizing blockers. Atropine, an anticholinergic, blocks muscarinic receptors to counteract neostigmine's parasympathomimetic effects on heart rate and secretions.
Should be administered only after some spontaneous recovery of neuromuscular function has begun. Requires adequate monitoring of respiratory function until full reversal is confirmed. Contraindicated in patients with mechanical obstruction or severe cardiac disease. May cause tachycardia, dry mouth, or urinary retention.
