Atropine / Prednisolone
Atropine/Prednisolone is a combination ophthalmic medication used to treat inflammatory eye conditions and maintain pupil dilation. Atropine is an anticholinergic agent that dilates the pupil and temporarily paralyzes eye muscles for comfort, while prednisolone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. This combination is commonly prescribed following eye surgery or for conditions involving both inflammation and pupil constriction.

Used to treat inflammatory eye conditions such as uveitis, iritis, and keratitis, as well as to prevent or break apart posterior synechiae (adhesions). Also commonly prescribed post-operatively following cataract surgery and other ocular procedures to reduce inflammation and maintain mydriasis.
Prednisolone works by suppressing the inflammatory response through inhibition of inflammatory cells and mediators, decreasing swelling, redness, and tissue damage. Atropine blocks muscarinic receptors in the eye, causing pupil dilation (mydriasis) and relaxing the ciliary muscle (cycloplegia), which also helps reduce pain and prevents the iris from sticking to the lens.
May cause temporary blurred vision, stinging, or eye sensitivity to light upon application. Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, as pupil dilation can increase intraocular pressure. Contact lenses should be removed before application and not reinserted for at least 15 minutes. Dosage and duration must be followed as prescribed to avoid complications from prolonged steroid use.
