Auryxia
Auryxia is a brand-name phosphate binder medication containing ferric citrate. It is primarily used to control high phosphorus levels in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are on dialysis, and may also be used to treat iron deficiency anemia in patients with CKD not requiring dialysis. The medication works by binding to dietary phosphate in the intestines, preventing its absorption into the bloodstream.
Auryxia is an iron-based phosphate binder used to manage high phosphorus levels in chronic kidney disease patients on dialysis and treat iron deficiency anemia in certain CKD patients.

Auryxia is indicated for the control of serum phosphorus levels in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis, and for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in adult patients with CKD not on dialysis.
Auryxia contains ferric citrate, which acts as a phosphate binder by exchanging ferric iron for dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, forming an insoluble complex that is excreted in feces. This reduces the absorption of phosphate from food. Additionally, the iron content is absorbed and can help address iron deficiency.
Auryxia should be taken with meals as directed. Common side effects may include stool discoloration (dark stool), diarrhea, constipation, and nausea. Patients should have their iron levels and phosphorus levels monitored regularly. The medication may cause iron overload with prolonged use and may interact with certain other medications by reducing their absorption.
