Avibactam / Ceftazidime
Avibactam/ceftazidime is a combination antibiotic used to treat complicated intra-abdominal infections and urinary tract infections in adults. It works against multi-drug resistant gram-negative bacteria that produce certain beta-lactamase enzymes, which would otherwise resist treatment with ceftazidime alone.
A combination antibiotic targeting drug-resistant gram-negative bacterial infections by combining ceftazidime with a beta-lactamase inhibitor.

Treats complicated intra-abdominal infections and complicated urinary tract infections in adults, particularly when caused by gram-negative bacteria resistant to standard antibiotics.
Ceftazidime is a cephalosporin that disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, while avibactam inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes that would otherwise break down the antibiotic, allowing it to remain effective against resistant bacteria.
Should only be used when other antibiotics are not appropriate. May cause side effects including diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Monitor for allergic reactions, particularly in those with penicillin or cephalosporin allergies.
