Avibactam Sodium
Avibactam Sodium is a beta-lactamase inhibitor used in combination with the antibiotic ceftazidime to treat complicated urinary tract infections and complicated intra-abdominal infections. It works by protecting ceftazidime from bacterial enzymes that would otherwise break down the antibiotic, allowing it to remain effective against resistant gram-negative bacteria.

Treatment of complicated urinary tract infections and complicated intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria, including cases where other antibiotics may not be effective due to resistance.
Avibactam inhibits bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes that normally break down beta-lactam antibiotics. When combined with ceftazidime, it protects the antibiotic from degradation, restoring or enhancing its antibacterial activity against resistant organisms.
Always administered with ceftazidime; not effective as monotherapy. Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergies. May cause hypersensitivity reactions, C. difficile-associated diarrhea, and requires monitoring of renal function during treatment.
