Mechanism of action

Value:Angiotensin II receptor antagonist

Pharmacological mechanism of action

Treatment of essential hypertension in adults. May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

As an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), this medication binds to AT1 receptors, preventing angiotensin II from causing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release, thereby promoting blood vessel relaxation and reduced blood pressure.

Not recommended during pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters) due to potential fetal harm. May cause dizziness or hypotension. Patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or history of angioedema should use with caution. Drug interactions possible with potassium-sparing diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
