Bendeka is FDA-approved for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and for the treatment of patients with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that has progressed during or within 6 months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

Bendeka contains bendamustine, an alkylating agent that works by binding to DNA and causing cross-linking of DNA strands. This prevents DNA replication and transcription, ultimately leading to cancer cell death. The medication targets rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells.

Bendeka is administered as an intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional. Common side effects include myelosuppression (low blood cell counts), nausea, fatigue, and infusion reactions. Patients should be monitored for signs of infection due to lowered white blood cell counts. The medication may cause harm to a developing fetus and should not be used during pregnancy. Regular blood tests are required during treatment to monitor blood cell counts and organ function.
