Therapeutic applications
Benorilate is used to treat mild to moderate pain (such as headache, toothache, or musculoskeletal pain) and fever reduction. It may be used in conditions where both analgesic and antipyretic effects are desired.
Benorilate is a prodrug that is metabolized in the body to release both aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and paracetamol (acetaminophen). These components work through different mechanisms - aspirin inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes while paracetamol acts on pain and temperature regulation pathways in the central nervous system.
As with all medications containing aspirin, it should be avoided in patients with aspirin allergy, bleeding disorders, or gastrointestinal ulcers. Caution is needed in patients with liver or kidney impairment. It should not be used in children due to the aspirin component (Reye's syndrome risk). Concurrent use with other NSAIDs or anticoagulants requires careful monitoring.
