This medication is primarily used to treat scabies (infestation by Sarcoptes scabiei mites) and may also be used for pubic lice. It is applied to the skin to eliminate the parasites and provide symptomatic relief from the intense itching these infestations cause.
Benzyl benzoate penetrates the exoskeleton of mites and lice, causing their death. Benzocaine works as a topical anesthetic by blocking nerve signals in the skin, temporarily numbing the area and reducing itching and discomfort while the active ingredient eradicates the parasites.
For external use only; avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. May cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals. Not recommended for use in infants or young children without medical supervision. Treatment may need to be repeated as directed by a healthcare provider, and all household members may need to be treated to prevent reinfestation.
