Used to relieve pain and discomfort from mouth ulcers, canker sores, minor mouth irritation, and sore throat. Also used as an adjunct for managing gingivitis and for oral hygiene in dental settings. Sometimes prescribed before or after dental procedures.
Benzocaine blocks sodium channels in nerve endings, preventing the generation and transmission of nerve impulses that cause pain sensation. Chlorhexidine binds to oral tissues and bacterial cell walls, disrupting their function and reducing bacterial load in the mouth.
For topical oral use only—do not swallow in large amounts. Avoid using on large areas or broken skin for extended periods. Not recommended for children under 2 years old due to risk of methemoglobinemia. Those with sensitivity to anesthetics or chlorhexidine should avoid use. Consult a healthcare provider if symptoms persist beyond 7 days.
