Used for temporary relief of pain and itching associated with minor skin irritations, sunburn, insect bites, poison ivy, and similar conditions. Also found in some topical hemorrhoid preparations and ear drops.
Benzocaine works as a topical anesthetic by blocking nerve signals in the skin, while pyrilamine (an antihistamine) blocks histamine receptors to reduce itching and allergic-type skin reactions. Together they address both pain sensation and inflammatory itching.
For topical use only; avoid contact with eyes and broken skin. Should not be used in large amounts or on large body areas, especially in children, due to risk of methemoglobinemia from benzocaine. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or persist beyond 7 days.
