This medication is used to temporarily relieve itching and pain associated with minor skin irritations including insect bites, minor burns, sunburn, minor cuts, scrapes, and skin rashes such as poison ivy. It may also be used for general dry, itchy, or irritated skin.
Both benzyl alcohol and pramoxine are topical anesthetics that work by temporarily numbing the nerve endings in the skin. Benzyl alcohol provides mild anesthetic and antiseptic effects, while pramoxine blocks sodium channels in nerve membranes, preventing the generation and transmission of pain and itch signals.
For external use only on intact skin. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Do not apply to large areas of broken or damaged skin. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider if symptoms worsen, persist beyond 7 days, or if rash develops. Keep out of reach of children.
