Beovu is indicated for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). These conditions involve the growth of abnormal blood vessels beneath the retina that can leak fluid and blood, leading to vision damage and loss.

Beovu is a humanized monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By blocking VEGF-A, it reduces angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) and vascular permeability, thereby decreasing fluid leakage and swelling in the retina.

Beovu is administered as an intravitreal injection (into the eye) by a qualified healthcare professional, typically every 4 weeks initially, then less frequently. Common side effects may include eye pain, cataract, conjunctival hemorrhage, and increased intraocular pressure. Rare but serious risks include endophthalmitis and retinal detachment. Patients should report any eye pain, vision changes, or signs of infection immediately.
