Bictegravir Sodium
Bictegravir Sodium is an antiretroviral medication classified as an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI). It works by blocking the HIV integrase enzyme, preventing viral DNA from integrating into human host cell DNA, thereby inhibiting viral replication. This medication is used as part of combination therapy for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients.

Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 14 kg. Always used in combination with other antiretroviral agents (specifically emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide as a single-tablet regimen).
As an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), bictegravir binds to the integrase enzyme active site and blocks the strand transfer step of HIV DNA integration into the host cell genome, preventing the formation of the HIV provirus and reducing viral replication.
Should not be used as monotherapy. Contraindicated when co-administered with certain drugs that significantly affect bictegravir levels. Requires baseline and ongoing monitoring of renal function and bone mineral density. Resistance testing recommended before initiation. Cannot be stopped abruptly without medical guidance.
