Bimekizumab
Bimekizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes inflammatory cytokines IL-17A and IL-17F, which drive autoimmune inflammation. It is used to treat moderate-to-severe inflammatory conditions including plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and hidradenitis suppurativa.
Bimekizumab is an immunosuppressant biologic that treats autoimmune inflammatory diseases by blocking IL-17A/F cytokines.

Statistics and clinical data
Drug class
Bimekizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits interleukin-17A and interleukin-17F
Common uses
Therapeutic indications for bimekizumab
Mechanism of action
Bimekizumab binds to IL-17A and IL-17F, preventing their interaction with IL-17 receptors
FDA approval year
First FDA approval for plaque psoriasis
Bimekizumab is used to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults eligible for systemic therapy, active psoriatic arthritis, non-radiographic and radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, and moderate to severe hidradenitis suppurativa.
As a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody with dual binding regions, bimekizumab selectively binds to IL-17A and IL-17F cytokines, preventing their interaction with IL-17 receptors and reducing the inflammatory immune response underlying autoimmune conditions.
Common adverse reactions include upper respiratory tract infections, oral candidiasis, and injection site reactions. Patients should be screened for tuberculosis before starting therapy and monitored for infections during treatment. Live vaccines should be avoided while on therapy.
