Treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection in adult patients with compensated liver disease who had not been previously treated or who had failed prior interferon-based therapy.

Boceprevir is a NS3/4A protease inhibitor that directly inhibits the replication of the hepatitis C virus by blocking a key enzyme needed for viral protein processing and viral replication.

Boceprevir must always be used in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin; it should not be used as monotherapy. Treatment response is monitored using hepatitis C viral load testing at specific time points. Boceprevir has been discontinued from the market and replaced by newer direct-acting antivirals with improved efficacy and fewer side effects.
