Bravecto is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and tick infestations, including black-legged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis), and brown dog ticks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus). It also helps in the treatment of flea allergy dermatitis.
Bravecto contains fluralaner, an ectoparasiticide that belongs to the isoxazoline class. It works by blocking glutamate and GABA-gated chloride channels in the nervous system of fleas and ticks, causing hyperexcitation and death of the parasites after they feed on the treated animal.
Bravecto is for veterinary use only and requires a prescription. It should not be used in dogs or cats with known hypersensitivity to fluralaner. The chewable tablet should be given with food for optimal absorption. Pet owners should monitor for rare adverse reactions including vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and in rare cases, neurological signs. Always consult with a veterinarian before use, especially for animals with a history of seizures or neurological disorders.
