Published: July 27, 2026Updated: August 28, 2026

Bromhexine/Oxytetracycline is a combination medication that pairs a mucolytic agent with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Treatment of acute and chronic respiratory tract infections associated with excessive mucus production, such as bronchitis, tracheobronchitis, and other bacterial infections of the lungs where mucolysis is desired alongside antimicrobial therapy.

Bromhexine acts as a mucolytic by breaking down the chemical structure of mucopolysaccharide fibers in bronchial secretions, reducing their viscosity and facilitating their clearance. Oxytetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Oxytetracycline may cause photosensitivity and should not be used in children under 12, during pregnancy, or in patients with known tetracycline hypersensitivity. Antacids, dairy products, and iron supplements may reduce oxytetracycline absorption. Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed to prevent antibiotic resistance.
