Chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one weight-related comorbid condition such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia. Intended as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Bupropion stimulates the hypothalamus to reduce appetite and increase energy expenditure, while naltrexone blocks opioid receptors that may enhance food cravings. Together, they provide complementary effects on brain pathways controlling hunger, satiety, and reward behaviors associated with eating.
Contraindicated in patients taking opioid analgesics, with uncontrolled hypertension, seizure disorders, bulimia, or anorexia, and during abrupt alcohol/benzodiazepine withdrawal. Not recommended during pregnancy. May increase risk of suicidal ideation, particularly in young adults. Can elevate blood pressure and heart rate; regular monitoring recommended. Requires gradual dose titration to minimize side effects.
