Treatment of urinary tract pain, burning, urgency, and frequency often associated with urinary tract infections or urinary tract irritation. May also be used for bladder spasms and dysuria (painful urination).
Phenazopyridine provides local analgesic effect on the urinary tract lining; hyoscyamine blocks muscarinic receptors to reduce smooth muscle spasms in the bladder; butabarbital provides mild sedation and anxiolytic effects to help manage discomfort-related anxiety.
Phenazopyridine may discolor urine to orange or red, which is harmless but can stain fabrics. This medication treats symptoms but does not cure underlying infections—antibiotics may be needed concurrently. Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, urinary obstruction, or those taking other anticholinergic medications. May cause drowsiness; avoid driving until familiar with effects.
