Treatment of acute migraine attacks with or without aura, and sometimes tension-type headaches. Not intended for prevention but for relief during active headache episodes.

Ergotamine causes vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels to counteract migraine-induced dilation. Dipyrone provides analgesic and antipyretic effects through inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Caffeine acts as an adjuvant to improve absorption and may provide additional mild analgesic effects.

Should not be used by patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, or during pregnancy. Risk of medication-overuse headaches with frequent use. Ergotamine-containing products carry risks of ergotism and cardiac complications. Availability varies by country; not FDA-approved in the United States. Should be taken at the first sign of migraine for best effect.
